What a unusual month this has been!!
At the beginning of the month I went over to Northern Ireland to have a four day break with a dear friend…I was so looking forward to having a time out...to enjoy the beauty of this country which I had never visited before, and being able to catch my breath and rest.
Well... on the flight over I started having stomach pains which got progressively worse and the next day landed up in hospital in Belfast and had emergency surgery late that night…not what I was planning at all!!!
To be honest I was pretty angry and frustrated…”why me??” was my bleating cry – and then a small whisper “why not you?” – I wrestled with this while lying in the hospital ward and then a deep sense of peace and trust filled me and I deep knowing that God is in control…and my bleat changed to "I may not fully see the picture right now but Lord…'yet will I praise you'”… and so headed down to the operating theatre with one thought “I love you JESUS”
I am so aware of so many friends going through such excruciating stuff at the moment.. spiritually, emotionally and physically and somehow through this unexpected detour God has expanded my heart a little more.. and hopefully be able to reach my friends a little more with true love and compassion
I came across this amazing prayer which hopefully will be an encouragement to you if your going through stuff…or perhaps you know someone who is…
“Steer the ship of my life, good Lord, to your quiet harbour, where I can be safe from the storms of sin and conflict. Show me the course I should take. Renew in me the gift of discernment, so that I can always see the right direction in which I should go. And give me the strength and the courage to choose the right course, even when the sea is rough and the waves are high, knowing that through enduring hardship and danger in your name we shall find comfort and peace.” - Basil of Caesarea (c. 329-379)
… by the way… I’m healing well..and..left a part of me in Northern Ireland…
I plan to go back there and pick up on the journey!!!
